Social bookmarking which is part of social networking opens you up to a whole new world of information that you probably would not have found on your own. As you make bookmarks and start sharing with other people you begin to interact and in a sense networking. You become part of a social networking community. Most social bookmarking or social networking communities use tags to organize what it is that you are bookmarking. Majority of social networking platforms provide a variety of ways for users to interact, chat, message, email, video, voice chat, file share, blog, and participate in group discussion.

There are many various social networking websites. Myspace lets you add friends, post comments, videos, mp3s, and blogs. Facebook created in 2004 is a college oriented style of social networking website. They even have a special page for business. LinkedIn is a popular business oriented social networking website. The purpose of LinkedIn is to build new business contacts. Tribe involves groups of people who participate in Tribe's forums to discuss a specific topic. You can also add RSS feeds to your profile, write a blog, or share links. Flickr is a unique social networking site that allows you to add comments to your photos and supports tagging. Furl allows users to save copies of any web page. Reddit shares content with others in the social bookmarking communities. Yahoo My Web uses their serach engines to share interests. Stumbleupon takes advantage of vast network to share information. Share2me allows you to share your favorite stuff on the web with your friends. Upscoop finds friends and acquaintances of yours that might be in various other social networks on the web.
