How to Choose a Cleaning Service

Choosing a cleaning service can be a daunting task. These people will be in you home; seeing a part of your life that most of your closest friends have never seen (like those crumpled clothes or dirty dishes from two nights ago). With some basic guidelines to follow, you will be able to find the right match for you.

1. Ask your friends and co-workers who they use. According to Jacquelyn Lynn, in her book, "Start Your Own Cleaning Service," 46 percent of consumers choose a cleaning professional through word of mouth. Trusted friends will tell you why they like their cleaning person. Also, if there was a problem with the service, you likely will have heard about it already from your friends or co-workers.

2. Acquire quotes from multiple sources. Gather at least three price quotes for comparison. Unless a price is truly out of line, don't purchase solely on price. Remember, these people will be in your house often when you are not home. Trust is not the only concern. How do they clean compared to what you expect? While the estimator is in your home, point out the areas of concern to you, such as that high ledge you always see cob-webs form on: how will they accommodate your request?

3. Request references and proof of insurance before you allow work to begin. If the Calgary's #1 Cleaning Solutions came as a recommendation from a friend, you already have a good reference, but it is still good practice to ask for additional sources. As for the insurance, the business owner needs to make a quick phone call to her agent to have a current copy faxed or emailed to you. If she refuses or seems confused by your request, she either does not have any insurance or is too new in business to know how easy showing proof is; either scenario is a potential deal breaker.
